At least 20 Palestinians, including several children and a paramedic, have been killed and almost 40 others wounded in Israeli strikes in Gaza, hospitals confirm. The Israeli military has stated that tanks and aircraft conducted precise strikes against what they referred to as terrorists who opened fire on troops in the northern strip, leading to serious injuries to an Israeli officer.

This military action is reported to have occurred near the Yellow Line, a geographical boundary beyond which Israeli forces are stationed, and has been categorized by the military as a violation of the ceasefire established with Hamas three months ago.

In retaliation, Hamas accused Israel of exploiting the incident as a justification for what they claim is ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people.

Hospital reports indicate that al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City received the bodies of 13 individuals, including five children, who were killed in air strikes targeting tents for displaced families and homes in the Zeitoun and Tuffah neighborhoods. Witnesses, including mourners in the courtyard of Nasser hospital, expressed tragedy at the loss of their loved ones, claiming undeserved victimhood amidst military actions.

Furthermore, incidents resulting in the loss of medical personnel have raised alarms. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported the death of paramedic Hussein al-Samiri, occurring while he was responding to the needs of victims from an earlier strike in the al-Mawasi area. The International Committee of the Red Cross expressed its appall at the ongoing violence against first responders.

The Israeli Defense Forces emphasized that the strikes aimed at a member of Hamas’s military wing, allegedly responsible for previous violent actions against Israel. This assertion, while part of their operational justification, has met with widespread international concern regarding civilian casualties and humanitarian law violations.

As hostilities continue, both parties continue to exchange accusations regarding violations of the ceasefire that was established on October 10, further complicating the already fragile peace efforts in the region.

Recent statistics indicate that over 556 Palestinians have died due to Israeli strikes, compared to four Israeli fatalities from Palestinian attacks since the escalation began following the initial Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
