Border Security Changes Under President Trump Yield Historic Decline in Illegal Crossings
The U.S. sees significant reductions in illegal border crossings attributed to Trump's enforcement policies, contrasting with previous administration approaches.
After a turbulent period marked by escalating illegal border crossings under President Biden, the Department of Homeland Security has recently announced a remarkable drastic decline in such incidents, aligning with the aggressive enforcement strategies put forth during President Trump’s time in office. The data reflects record-low illegal crossings, presenting a stark contrast to the 7.6 million unauthorized entries recorded under Biden's administration, which also included a significant number from nations identified as national security threats.
Currently, illegal crossings have significantly decreased, dropping from approximately 155,000 per month during Biden's tenure to a mere 7,180. Additionally, daily apprehensions have seen a dramatic reduction of about 95%, falling from 5,100 to just 230 apprehended individuals. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has stated that “operational control is becoming a reality,” illustrating a turnaround that earlier seemed improbable.
With a raised focus on law enforcement, Border Patrol agents are reportedly reinstated with the authority to enforce immigration laws effectively. Commissioner Pete Flores affirmed that “the border is closed to illegal crossings,” signaling the administration's more stringent approach toward unauthorized immigration and emphasizing that violators will face prosecution and deportation.
This development marks a clear shift from the Biden administration’s policies, which permitted significant numbers of individuals—including those from potentially dangerous backgrounds—into the country. Biden's own Department of Homeland Security classified over 1.7 million illegal entrants as Special Interest Aliens, many of whom were released into U.S. communities. This includes thousands of criminal offenders with serious charges, such as murder and drug crimes.
Moreover, before leaving office, Biden extended Temporary Protected Status to nearly 1 million undocumented immigrants, further complicating the landscape of U.S. immigration policy.
Under the current administration, Trump’s approach emphasizes an unequivocal stance on border security, underscoring that national security remains a priority and reinforcing previous law enforcement measures intended to maintain control over U.S. borders.
