Ashley Paul Griffith, 47, admitted to committing 307 offences across childcare centres in Queensland and Italy from 2003 to 2022. The judges characterized his actions as 'depraved' and highlighted a significant breach of trust concerning the vulnerability of his victims, who ranged from just one to seven years old.

In a disturbing account, Judge Paul Smith noted that Griffith was also accused of abusing more children in New South Wales. The accused had a "paedophilic disorder" and a high risk of reoffending, resulting in a non-parole period set for at least 27 years. Griffith’s arrest in August 2022 by Australia’s federal police initiated a lengthy investigation, revealing over 1,600 child sex offence charges—though many were later dropped. His heinous acts were underscored by the discovery of thousands of photos and videos he had uploaded to the dark web, exposing the chilling extent of his crimes.

Notably, Griffith's trademark bedsheets, previously sold to childcare centres, inadvertently aided investigators in identifying him from distorted footage that cropped out the faces of his victims. He accepted guilt for 28 counts of rape, close to 200 charges related to indecent treatments of a child, and various charges for producing and disseminating child exploitation materials.
