€5 Million Cocaine Bust in Kildare: A Significant Drug Seizure
Garda Síochána apprehend two men linked to organized crime following major drug find in County Kildare.
Garda Síochána reported a major drug enforcement success as approximately 72 kilograms of cocaine, valued at approximately €5 million (£4 million), was seized in the Allenwood area of County Kildare. The operation unfolded on Wednesday when law enforcement officials executed a stop-and-search of a vehicle and a residential property, leading to the substantial drug confiscation.
Two men, aged in their 50s and 60s, were arrested during the operation. They have been charged with facilitating and enhancing drug distribution activities for an organized crime group. These individuals are set to appear before Naas District Court on Thursday, where the legal proceedings will commence.
Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis of Organized and Serious Crime commented on the significant nature of the seizure, stating, “This is another significant seizure of cocaine destined for the Irish market.” She emphasized the commitment of An Garda Síochána and their law enforcement partners in targeting those engaged in drug-related organized crime, highlighting the detrimental effects that such activities have on communities through harm, intimidation, and violence.
The operation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Irish law enforcement in curbing organized crime and drug trafficking, which remain pressing issues in the Republic of Ireland.
