A devastating cloudburst in Uttarakhand has led to flash floods, with officials fearing that dozens may be trapped under debris. Rescue operations are complicated by continuing heavy rains, prompting concerns about an artificial lake created by sludge blockage in the region.

Rescue teams, including army and paramilitary personnel, are currently engaged in efforts to locate dozens of individuals feared trapped following a significant cloudburst that triggered intense flash floods in Uttarakhand, India. The floods primarily affected Dharali village, a popular tourist destination in Uttarkashi district known for its hotels, resorts, and restaurants.

Witness accounts describe a catastrophic scene as a wall of water surged through the village, demolishing buildings and inundating roads. Eyewitnesses filmed the dramatic flood as it barreled down from the Kheerganga River, which swelled significantly during the downpour that began around 1:30 PM local time. Shouts of "run, run" echoed as panic set in, but many were unable to escape the deluge in time.

The deluge not only devastated the village's infrastructure but also damaged the ancient Kalpkedar temple, which lies buried under debris. Alarmingly, the flooding has obstructed the main river Bhagirathi, leading to the formation of an artificial lake that threatens to overflow and exacerbate the disaster's impact on surrounding communities.

Rescue efforts are hindered by continued rainfall, complicating communication and response efforts in the area. Prashant Arya, the top official in Uttarkashi, noted poor connectivity has impeded rescue operations, but teams have been dispatched to respond to the disaster. Injured individuals have begun receiving treatment at an army camp in nearby Harsil.
