Dame Joan Plowright, a celebrated figure in British theater and film, has died peacefully at the age of 95 as announced by her family. Widowed by Sir Laurence Olivier, she cemented her reputation through a remarkable six-decade career that began in the 1950s in London's West End. Plowright burst onto the scene in 1957, captivating audiences alongside Olivier in the acclaimed production of The Entertainer, where she played his daughter. This pivotal role led to their nomination for Bafta awards when the film adaptation was released a few years later.

Her talent was acknowledged globally, leading to an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1991 film Enchanted April. Plowright's contributions to theater also earned her a Tony Award for her role in A Taste of Honey on Broadway in 1960. Furthermore, her work in film continued to shine, as illustrated by her Bafta nomination for the powerful drama Equus alongside Richard Burton in 1978.

Despite facing challenges in her later years, including the loss of her sight, which prompted her retirement from the stage in 2014, Plowright remained a beloved figure.
