**Syria's New Government Faces Deadly Clashes Amid Rising Unrest**

Tensions escalate in Syria as violence erupts in the coastal region, challenging the authority of the new rulers.

At least 70 fatalities reported amid clashes between regime loyalists and security forces, posing a significant threat to the newly established government.

Violence has surged in Syria’s coastal region, historically a stronghold for the recently ousted President Bashar al-Assad. Clashes have left at least 70 individuals dead as government security forces confront gunmen loyal to the former regime. Thousands have taken to the streets in widespread protests against the new government, leading security forces to implement curfews in an effort to restore order.

This unrest emerges as a major challenge to the interim government established in December following a swift takeover by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, marking a notable shift in Syria's political landscape. The violence centers around the Alawite regions along the Mediterranean coast, where the Assad family, who ruled Syria for decades, garnered significant support.

As protesters demand accountability for atrocities committed under Assad’s regime, interim president Ahmed al-Shara has vowed to pursue justice against senior figures affiliated with the former government. He emphasizes a commitment to stability and ensuring the rights of all Syrians, irrespective of their sect. Nonetheless, since the Islamist takeover, concerns have grown among the Alawite population who fear repercussions and instability as the new leadership consolidates power.

The government's response to the escalating tensions and protests remains to be seen, as the situation continues to develop, prompting concerns about the future governance of the country and the potential resurgence of violence.
