U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to usher in a new era of military readiness, revealing ambitious plans to construct up to 12 attack submarines and invest significantly in modern weaponry. In an announcement made on Monday, Starmer emphasized the necessity of preparation for potential conflicts in the face of increasing global tensions, especially in light of Russia's ongoing military actions in Ukraine.

In a BBC interview, he stated, "If you want to deter conflict, then the best way to do that is to prepare for conflict." This declaration precedes the strategic defense review, which aims to enhance Britain's military capabilities amid concerns over American disengagement from European defense and the unpredictability of President Trump's stance on allied security.

The planned military overhaul is particularly timely, coinciding with escalating hostilities in Ukraine, where recent drone strikes have targeted deep Russian military installations. The review, led by George Robertson, former NATO Secretary-General, was initiated after Starmer's election victory last year but has gained urgency due to the evolving geopolitical landscape.

Key elements of the defense strategy include the procurement of 7,000 British-made long-range weapons and the formation of a new cyber command, highlighting the growing emphasis on digital warfare capabilities.
