A tragic incident unfolded on Friday at the construction site of a luxury hotel in Busan, South Korea, when a fire erupted, resulting in at least six fatalities and injuring 25 others. The blaze reportedly started in the swimming pool area on the ground floor of the 12-story Banyan Tree resort, which was nearing completion and scheduled to open this year.

Fire officials responded to the blaze shortly after 10:50 a.m. local time, with Chief Hong Moon-sik noting that dark smoke quickly engulfed the building, hindering rescue operations. Emergency responders discovered the six deceased individuals unconscious amid flaming insulation material, which generated toxic black smoke, obstructing evacuation routes.

Rescue operations were extensive with hundreds of firefighters and over 120 fire trucks dispatched to the scene. Fortunately, 14 individuals were successfully extracted from the roof during the emergency. Chief Hong stated that the rapid expansion of the fire contributed to the high casualty rate and confirmed that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The resort in question is owned by the Singaporean company, Banyan Group, which has yet to release a statement regarding the tragedy. The incident raises significant concerns about construction site safety regulations, especially in light of the project's nearly completed status.
