Halle Bailey Secures Restraining Order Against Ex-Boyfriend DDG Amid Allegations of Abuse
The actress and singer seeks legal protection after alleging multiple incidents of physical and emotional violence.
Actress and singer Halle Bailey, renowned for her performance in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, has obtained a restraining order against her former partner, rapper and YouTube star DDG (Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.). Bailey, 25, alleges that she has endured repeated incidents of violence and intimidation at the hands of Granberry, prompting her to seek legal protection for herself and their one-year-old son, Halo.
A Los Angeles judge has mandated that Granberry stay away from Bailey and Halo until a court hearing scheduled for June 6. Bailey’s court filings reportedly detail several acts of "physical, verbal, emotional, and financial abuse" from Granberry since their separation in October. In her petition for the restraining order, Bailey expressed her fears regarding their safety, stating, “I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse.”
The couple, who were together from 2022 until late 2022, faced escalating tensions that culminated in physical confrontations. Bailey recounted a particularly distressing incident in January where insults allegedly led to a physical altercation, during which Granberry reportedly pulled her hair and injured her by slamming her face against the car's steering wheel, resulting in a chipped tooth.
In subsequent alleged encounters, Bailey accused Granberry of entering her home uninvited and sending her threatening messages. She described a confrontation that led to physical aggression, with Granberry reportedly smashing her Ring doorbell camera when he became aware it was recording, alongside restraining her phone during a call for assistance. She has also filed a police report regarding these incidents.
As part of the restraining order, Granberry has been prohibited from possessing weapons, and the judge indicated the possibility of extending this order for up to five years at the upcoming hearing. Furthermore, Bailey has requested that Granberry cease using his extensive social media following to spread harmful misinformation about her, including claims of her supposedly withholding their son.
Bailey has achieved significant success in both music and acting, with multiple Grammy nominations and a notable role in the sitcom Grown-ish. DDG, who first garnered fame through YouTube, has released four studio albums since beginning his music career. Both individuals have substantial public platforms, which complicates the narrative as they navigate their personal challenges publicly.
