The incident, described by a navy spokesperson, occurred when a privately owned ferry was en route to the Elephanta Caves, a renowned tourist destination.

Witness accounts from passengers on the ferry indicate panic ensued as the vessel began taking on water. One passenger recounted how the vessel overturned and urged others to put on life jackets while he swam for approximately 15 minutes before being rescued by a nearby boat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow regarding the incident, offering condolences to the families of the victims and wishing for the swift recovery of those injured.
