New Era for Ismaili Community: Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Becomes 50th Aga Khan

Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini assumes leadership following the passing of his father, marking a significant moment for the Shia Ismaili Muslim community globally.

In a historic transition, Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini has been appointed the new Aga Khan, taking over the leadership role from his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88. This appointment, as confirmed by the Aga Khan Development Network after the unsealing of Prince Karim's will, signifies the beginning of a new chapter for the community.

As the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, Prince Rahim leads a global congregation that counts approximately 15 million members, with substantial populations in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, and Africa. The Ismailis, a sect of Shia Islam, trace their lineage back to Imam Ismail, a historically significant figure born in the 8th century.

The legacy of Prince Karim Aga Khan is notable; he began his service as Imam at the young age of 20, following the death of his grandfather. Under his leadership, the community engaged in various philanthropic efforts and strengthened its global presence. His recent passing was marked by a statement from the Aga Khan Development Network, acknowledging his family-oriented final moments in Lisbon, Portugal.

The transition to Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini's leadership is poised to have a profound impact on the Ismaili Muslim community, as they look forward to new initiatives and guidance in the years to come.
