Major Cocaine Seizure in Kildare: Two Arrested in €5 Million Drug Bust
A significant cocaine bust in Kildare leads to two arrests as authorities step up efforts against organized crime.
In a recent operation, Garda Síochána successfully seized approximately 72 kilograms of cocaine valued at €5 million from a vehicle and a residential property in Allenwood, County Kildare. The police action occurred on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of two men, aged in their 50s and 60s, who have been charged with offenses related to facilitating drug distribution for an organized crime group.
The authorities, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter, have underlined their ongoing commitment to tackling organized drug-related crime, which they assert leads to significant harm, intimidation, and violence in communities across Ireland. Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis remarked on the seizure's importance, stating it represents a considerable interception of cocaine that was meant for the Irish market.
Following the arrests, the two men are scheduled to appear in Naas District Court on Thursday to face the charges brought against them. The recent crackdown on drug trafficking by Garda Síochána signifies a broader effort to disrupt the operations of organized crime and protect communities from the negative impacts of drug abuse and related violence.
