At a lively Irish pub in the suburbs of Houston, Texas, a dedicated group of young Republicans gathered for President Donald Trump’s address to Congress, missing the popular opening night of the Rodeo. Dressed in red, white, and blue, adorned with flag pins and scarves, they expressed overwhelming support for the president, with many grading his performance a solid “A+” for his first 44 days in office.

Among the attendees, Evan Howard, 26, stood out in his Trump-Vance baseball cap, raising his glass in agreement with various points Trump made during the address. Howard highlighted Trump’s tough stance on crime and cartels, asserting that these approaches would ultimately reduce violence in America. However, he admitted that he has not yet felt significant personal benefits from Trump’s policies. "I’m not too much better off, to be honest, but I like what he’s doing," Howard noted, acknowledging the long-term nature of policy implementations.

Another attendee, Brittany, a 31-year-old black woman and recent recruit to the Republican Party, found the president’s message to be unifying and reflective of broader American struggles. Her sentiments echoed those of her peers, who criticized the Democrats for prioritizing issues they felt were less relevant to the average American, such as debates over gender language. "Americans are struggling. You have issues with crime, and people losing their homes...and the liberals want to talk about pronouns," she stated.

The crowd surged in applause whenever Trump mentioned controversial topics, such as "wokeness" and criticisms of the Democratic party. Conversely, negative reactions were directed at moments featuring Nancy Pelosi or other Democrats.
