A cluster of Sydney Swans players was referred to Victoria Police following an alleged misconduct incident in Melbourne, prompting the club to confirm an unspecified incident that left the community shocked and disappointed.

Investigators are also probing a separate claim of a sexual assault that occurred at a hotel on Wellington Parade early Sunday morning, according to police officials.

Club chief executive Matthew Pavlich said the organization was "still piecing together exactly what transpired" and would not divulge specific allegations or arrest details pending the police inquiry.

A police spokesperson noted the exact circumstances of the investigation are yet to be established, stressing that the matter remains ongoing and should not be speculated upon prematurely.

The AFL confirmed that the Sydney Swans had notified the league about the situation, which is now under the jurisdiction of Victoria Police.
