In brief
In southwestern France, authorities mandated the complete evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula, a popular tourist area, as wildfire forces blaze across the Gironde region. Hundreds of visitors and residents were guided onto boats from local piers, while road routes were also opened to evacuate people safely. Firefighters are still battling the blaze, covering over 8,700 hectares, and European support is expected from neighboring countries. The incident coincides with severe blaze outbreaks in Spain, prompting a national emergency declaration near Madrid. President Macron emphasizes the tense situation and the need for international assistance.
