Dad fined after son, 2, died in Cyprus hotel fall

A father named Joshua Foster was fined €3,000—about £2,500—after his two‑year‑old son fell to his death from a window at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel & Resort in Paphos on 12 July.

According to court testimony, Foster placed his son on the windowsill to show him the view of a nearby waterpark, assuming the window was securely closed. The boy fell nearly 40 feet (12 m) from the fourth floor, resulting in fatal injuries.

Foster, 37, from Essex, England, admitted that he caused the death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act. The Paphos District Court sentenced him on Friday morning, imposing a fine of €3,000. Foster was visibly distraught and later embraced his lawyer and parents.

The incident has raised concerns over child safety practices in luxury hotels. Hotel officials are reportedly reviewing safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies. Authorities will also investigate whether additional measures are needed to protect young guests abroad.
