Several people are feared to have been killed and injured in Nigeria after a suspected suicide bomber carried out an attack on a mosque in Borno state.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blast occurred during evening prayers. Initial reports suggest that seven individuals may have died, but official casualty figures have yet to be confirmed.

Social media has shown unverified footage appearing to depict the aftermath of the explosion, with individuals present in a dust-covered marketplace.

While no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack in Maiduguri, it is noted that the region has previously witnessed similar assaults targeting mosques and crowded venues using suicide tactics and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
