While there are confirmed casualties and injuries, specific numbers have not been disclosed. Kristin Coulter from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency stated the Department of Health has yet to verify the figures. The exact number of people present in the building at the time of the incident remains unclear.
Residents as far away as Lobelville, located about a 20-minute drive from the site, reported that they felt the intensity of the blast.
“I thought the house had collapsed with me inside of it,” said Gentry Stover, a local resident who lives near the facility.
Details about the Manufacturing Plant
The origin of the explosion is yet to be determined. Public records indicate that the facility produces and sells various types of explosives, including products for the U.S. military such as dynamite and landmines.
Accurate Energetic Systems operates on a 1,300-acre site in Bucksnort, roughly 60 miles southwest of Nashville. The facility comprises eight buildings employed in manufacturing, storing, and researching explosives for military and commercial applications.
According to their website, the company’s products are used for structural demolition as well as strategic operations and are approved by the Department of Defense for both military and police operations across the globe.
The facility also serves as a testing ground for explosives, capable of safely accommodating up to 35 pounds of explosive material, with tests conducted daily under various environmental conditions.
