WILMINGTON, Del. — William Stevenson, 77, who was previously married to Jill Biden, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Linda Stevenson, 64. The Delaware Attorney General's office announced the charges on Tuesday. The incident allegedly took place at their home on December 28, where authorities discovered a woman unresponsive during a reported domestic dispute.
According to reports, Linda was pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts. She is remembered as a dedicated mother, grandmother, and Philadelphia Eagles fan, but her obituary notably did not mention her husband. Stevenson, who established the famed music venue Stone Balloon in Newark, is currently being held in jail after his arrest on Monday and his subsequent failure to post a $500,000 bail.
The investigation leading to the grand jury indictment lasted several weeks, with Stevenson reportedly expressing criticism of Jill Biden in a 2024 Newsmax interview, where he described their divorce as contentious and referred to her as “bitter” and “nasty.” Jill Biden has not commented on these recent developments. Stevenson remains without public legal representation at this time. Jill Biden married current U.S. President Joe Biden in 1977.
