Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal denounced the incident as an “unprovoked attack” and pledged steps to safeguard the safety of maritime workers in the region. He urged the international community to restore free and lawful navigation through the area’s waterways at the earliest opportunity.
The attack adds to a growing list of violent incidents targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea. Patrols and advisory notifications have become common following Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in February, which forced many oil tanker routes to pivot to alternative Red Sea lanes.
