A 'major player' in the alleged kidnapping and murder of 85-year-old grandfather Chris Baghsarian has been charged, according to police. Baghsarian was abducted from his home in North Ryde on February 13, and his body was discovered nearly two weeks later near a golf course.
The arrested man, 23 years old, faces multiple charges, including murder and kidnapping. Police claim he played a significant role in facilitating the crime, recruiting others for the kidnapping, and orchestrating the disposal of Baghsarian's body. His arrest occurred early Wednesday at a residence in Seven Hills, where he was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court.
Currently, two other individuals, 29-year-old Gerard Andrews and 24-year-old Daniel Stevens, have been charged in connection with Baghsarian's death, and the investigation continues with the belief that up to nine individuals may be involved.
Detectives have indicated that the incident may have connections to organized crime, as the original target appeared to be related to criminal activities. In the days following the kidnapping, authorities had appealed for the safe return of Baghsarian due to his health issues. They are also working to uncover the dynamics that led to this tragic case of mistaken identity.
