Chloe Malle to Take the Helm at American Vogue

Chloe Malle will become the top editor at American Vogue after Dame Anna Wintour stepped aside as editor-in-chief, the publication has announced.

The 39-year-old worked her way up the fashion magazine ranks over the past 14 years to become editor of Vogue.com and host of the magazine's podcast, The Run Through.

Malle's appointment marks a new era for the magazine, considered one of the most influential and glamorous fashion publications.

Dame Anna, the British-born fashion magnate, announced she was leaving the role in June after holding the position for 37 years. The magazine reported that she would retain senior positions at its publisher.

In a statement announcing the news, Malle expressed excitement about the opportunity to shape Vogue. Vogue has already shaped who I am; now I'm excited at the prospect of shaping Vogue, she said.

Dame Anna complimented Malle, stating that she had demonstrated a unique ability to maintain Vogue's long-standing traditions while innovating for the future. I am excited to continue working with her, as her mentor but also as her student, while she leads us and our audiences where we've never been before, Dame Anna remarked.

Long-time Vogue Employee

Malle, the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and French film director Louis Malle, grew up splitting her time between Paris and Los Angeles before securing her breakout role at Vogue.

Starting as a social editor in 2011, Malle has played a pivotal role in the magazine's direction, overseeing significant projects, including a photoshoot featuring Naomi Biden.

Political Activism

Like her predecessor, Malle has engaged in political discussions through her work. She actively supports Democratic causes and has previously voiced her disappointment regarding current political events, demonstrating her commitment to using her platform for political discourse.

Wintour Keeps Office

While the exact timing of Malle's transition to chief editor remains clear, Dame Anna, at 75, will continue to influence Vogue's content and strategy as Condé Nast's chief content officer.

Industry observers note that Malle's ascent comes with challenges, especially in balancing her leadership style with the longstanding influence of Wintour, ensuring the brand's future while honoring its rich legacy.
