Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been hospitalized after sustaining an injury during an official trip to Luxembourg, according to her office's statement on Friday. Reports from US media indicate that Pelosi suffered injuries to her hip after tripping and falling at an event, citing confidential sources.
Pelosi, aged 84, is currently receiving "excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals," according to her spokesperson, Ian Krager. Despite her hospital stay, Pelosi continues to work from her hospital bed and is eager to return to the United States soon.
As a leading figure in US politics over a career spanning seven presidential administrations, Pelosi previously served as House Speaker from 2007 to 2011 and resumed the role in 2019 after her party regained control of the House. She stepped down from the speakership position in 2023 after accomplishing two full terms but remains an active member representing California in the House. Notably, she was reelected to serve for another two years last month.
Pelosi was part of a bipartisan congressional delegation of 18 members visiting Luxembourg for the anniversary events, which include participation alongside veterans and military officials. Unfortunately, due to her injury, she will be unable to partake in further activities related to this trip.
This incident follows closely behind a separate mishap involving outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, who also suffered injuries from a fall at the US Capitol just days ago.
