Sole Survivor of Air India Crash Attends Brother's Funeral Amid Grief and Resilience

Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the only survivor of last week's tragic Air India plane crash, played a poignant role in the farewell of his brother, Ajay, during his funeral in Diu, western India. Ajay perished in the disaster that claimed the lives of at least 270 individuals shortly after the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner took off from Ahmedabad. Despite suffering from significant injuries, including bandaged arms and a face still healing from burns, Ramesh stood as a pallbearer, showing a profound commitment to family amidst overwhelming grief.

As Ramesh’s mother could be seen sorrowfully walking alongside the coffin adorned in a blue sari, the funeral garnered support from local residents, underscoring the community's collective mourning. Satinder Singh Sandhu, an ambulance driver, intervened and guided Ramesh to safety as he emerged from the flaming scene. Sandhu expressed shock at discovering Ramesh’s identity, later learning he was the sole survivor of the catastrophe.

Ramesh, who was seated near his brother on the ill-fated flight, described a surreal moment when he realized he had survived the wreckage. In an emotional reflection, he articulated the disbelief in his survival, stating he felt moments away from death before ultimately finding a way out.
