**Bill Gates Commits $200 Billion Fortune to Transform Health and Education in Africa**

Microsoft co-founder announces a major philanthropic initiative directed at addressing critical challenges in Africa over the next two decades.

Bill Gates, the fifth-richest individual globally, has pledged to invest a significant portion of his $200 billion fortune towards enhancing health and education systems across Africa, a move that aims to catalyze prosperity on the continent over the next 20 years.

In a major announcement delivered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Bill Gates emphasized the transformative power of health and education in unleashing Africa's potential. The 69-year-old billionaire revealed that the lion’s share of his wealth will be allocated to improving healthcare and educational services throughout the continent, reinforcing his commitment to philanthropy as he aims to donate 99% of his fortune by 2045, when he plans to discontinue the operations of his foundation.

During his address at the African Union headquarters, Gates highlighted the critical role of Africa's young innovators, urging them to explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies that can enhance health outcomes. He noted that the foundation has a longstanding presence in Africa and seeks to tackle pressing health issues, particularly maternal and child health, by emphasizing the importance of proper nutrition before and after pregnancy.

Gates pointed to Rwanda's implementation of AI-enabled ultrasound technology as an inspiring model for improving healthcare delivery, illustrating the potential for such innovations in transforming health services continent-wide. His foundation has identified three focal areas: ending preventable maternal and infant deaths, combating infectious diseases, and alleviating poverty within African communities.

Amidst a backdrop of reduced aid from the United States, Gates's initiative is seen as a crucial intervention, with previous first lady of Mozambique, Graça Machel, expressing optimism regarding his continued support amid a "moment of crisis." While some critics argue that the foundation's power within the global health landscape could present challenges, Gates’s forthcoming initiatives may offer fresh hope for progress in African health and education sectors.

The billionaire's resolve to redistribute wealth stems from his admiration for fellow philanthropist Warren Buffett, as Gates strives to ensure that his legacy transcends mere financial accumulation. Nonetheless, even after giving away 99% of his fortune, he may remain a billionaire, which continues to spark dialogue about wealth and influence in philanthropy.
