More than 35 people have been killed in Israeli strikes and gunfire since the early hours of Saturday morning, hospital sources in Gaza say.

A strike on a house in central Gaza left at least 11 people dead - more than half of them women and children - according to officials at al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza City. Health workers reported that numerous members of the same family were killed in an Israeli strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp, and at least six others were reportedly killed while seeking aid in central and southern Gaza.

This escalation unfolds a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated at the United Nations that Israel must finish the job against Hamas. The Israeli air force claims to have targeted approximately 120 sites across the Strip since Friday, including infrastructure allegedly used by terrorist organizations.

As Israel's ground offensive expands, focusing primarily on Gaza City, where it believes Hamas's last stronghold lies, hundreds of thousands have been forced to flee the area. However, many residents remain trapped in dire conditions, exacerbated by a recognized famine and collapsing essential services.

International calls for a ceasefire have amplified, with renewed discussions surrounding Palestinian statehood at the UN. Nevertheless, Israel's current strategy aims to maintain pressure on Hamas to force its surrender.

Calls for negotiations have echoed through the corridors of power globally, emphasizing a need for a resolution. Despite progress towards a peace plan proposed by the US, significant hurdles remain as both Israeli and Palestinian leaders seem reluctant to compromise significantly, indicating a complex path ahead filled with obstacles.
