NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and four of its journalists on Monday, according to court documents.
The lawsuit, submitted in U.S. District Court in Florida, references several articles and a book created by two Times journalists, asserting that they exhibit a 'decades-long pattern' of deliberate and harmful misinformation targeting Trump.
According to the lawsuit, the defendants published these statements negligently and either knew they were false or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.
The New York Times has not yet responded to requests for comment as of early Tuesday morning.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump claimed that The New York Times has been dishonest about him, alleging that it has transformed into a 'virtual mouthpiece' for the Radical Left Democrat Party.
This lawsuit comes on the heels of Trump’s other legal complaints against media entities, including a $10 billion defamation case against The Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch in July, after the newspaper published details regarding his connections to a high-profile financier, Jeffrey Epstein.
