Marcos Arduini Monzo, influenced by drug-induced psychosis, receives a life sentence for the murder of Daniel Anjorin, following a violent spree in northeast London.
A man has been sentenced to life in prison after killing a 14-year-old boy during a violent rampage through residential streets in northeast London. Marcos Arduini Monzo, 37, was convicted of murder and attempted murder for his actions on April 30, 2024, which left the community in shock.
In a 20-minute spree, Monzo attacked several individuals, including two police officers. The young victim, Daniel Anjorin, was tragically murdered just outside his family home while on his way to school, found by his father still wearing his school backpack. Videos from the incident showed Monzo shouting provocative questions and attacking law enforcement after the boy's death.
During the early hours of the morning, Monzo began his assault by driving a vehicle into a man commuting to work. After striking him, Monzo exited the van and attacked with a large samurai sword. Following this, he approached Daniel from behind, delivering a fatal blow as the boy made his way to school.
As emergency services arrived, Monzo displayed further aggression, striking an ambulance and resisting police officers who attempted to detain him. The police, unarmed and equipped only with batons and Tasers, pursued Monzo but encountered additional violence when he assaulted a female officer, causing serious injuries.
Monzo further invaded the home of a sleeping couple, where he attacked the husband, who was defending his family, before fleeing the scene due to the cries of their young daughter. Authorities eventually cornered Monzo, who was subdued after a struggle that involved the deployment of Tasers.
Prosecutors revealed that Monzo had expressed admiration for extremist figures online but determined that his violent actions were rooted in cannabis-induced psychosis rather than any underlying political motives. Earlier that day, he had committed the horrifying act of killing and attempting to consume his pet cat.
During the sentencing, Judge Joel Bennathan condemned the violence wrought upon a community accustomed to peace, describing the brutal nature of Monzo's actions and their devastating consequences. Monzo received a life sentence, with a minimum of 40 years before he can apply for parole, reflecting society's outrage over the brutal murder of a young life.
