**Food Aid Crisis Deepens in Gaza as UN Stock Runs Out Amid Israeli Blockade**

UN World Food Programme warns of impending disaster as aid blockade continues.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza becomes increasingly dire following the depletion of food aid stocks as Israeli restrictions persist.

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has announced it has completely run out of food supplies in Gaza amidst an ongoing Israeli blockade that has lasted for seven weeks. The organization stressed that it delivered its final remaining food stocks to community kitchens, which rely on these supplies to provide approximately one million hot meals per day. It is anticipated that these kitchens will exhaust their resources soon if the blockade is not lifted.

The blockade began on March 2, and the situation escalated two weeks later when Israel resumed offensive operations following a collapsed ceasefire. The Israeli government argues that it is enforcing the blockade as a measure against Hamas, insisting that it complies with international law while denying any food shortages exist.

Despite these claims, the WFP reports that the blockade has created a severe humanitarian crisis, with food prices surging by up to 1,400% since the beginning of the conflict. The UN has highlighted the deteriorating nutrition levels among vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Cases of acute malnutrition among children have more than doubled in recent weeks, as humanitarian aid has dwindled.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), medical supplies have become critically low, with hospitals unable to manage the influx of casualties from the ongoing Israeli airstrikes. Fuel shortages further cripple water services, exacerbating the dire conditions within the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, remarked that the situation in Gaza has reached a grave tipping point, stressing that "this aid blockade must end" as lives hang in the balance. The WFP's Country Director noted that more than 80% of Gaza's population have been displaced, resulting in heightened need for food aid. Once the kitchens run out of supplies, WFP assessors fear they will be unable to meet even half of the population's nutritional needs.

Residents are adapting to the bleak scenario by resorting to extreme measures—bartering belongings, sharing resources, and sadly increasing instances of begging. The desperation felt among the populace is unprecedented, yet those in need are unable to support one another due to dwindling resources.

In a recent foreign ministry statement, Israel rejected accusations regarding the blockade, maintaining that significant volumes of aid had been delivered previously. While the country allowed thousands of aid trucks during the ceasefire, it asserts that Hamas has misappropriated supplies intended for civilians as part of its operational strategies.

Meanwhile, negotiations continue, but the situation remains fragile as Hamas refuses to entertain proposals for a ceasefire unless substantial terms—such as an end to hostilities and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces—are met. The backdrop to this humanitarian crisis is a violent conflict that has seen over 51,000 fatalities in Gaza since a cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, marking one of the most tumultuous periods in the region’s history.
