Game Freak acknowledges hack and pledges improved security following data leak.
Game Freak, the creator of the globally recognized Pokémon franchise, has confirmed a data breach that occurred in August. The hacker gained access to servers, compromising the personal information of current, former, and contract employees. A total of 2,606 records, containing names and email addresses, were leaked online. While Game Freak refrained from commenting on any leaked content related to unreleased projects, they emphasized their commitment to enhancing security measures to prevent future incidents. The company has pledged to notify affected individuals where possible. Game Freak works in partnership with Nintendo and the Pokémon Company, managing one of the world's most valuable media franchises, and is currently developing Pokémon Legends: Z-A, slated for release next year. Concurrently, Nintendo and the Pokémon Company have initiated legal actions in Japan against Palword's developer, citing patent infringement concerns related to similarities with the Pokémon brand. Game Freak apologized for any distress caused by the unauthorized access and reassured stakeholders of their intent to prevent similar breaches.
