At least 10 people lost their lives in a tragic stampede outside a cricket stadium in Bengaluru, India, during a victory parade celebrating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning the Indian Premier League (IPL). This devastating incident unfolded as thousands of supporters gathered on the streets, excitedly awaiting the arrival of their home team, who had triumphed over the Punjab Kings just one day earlier.

According to a senior police official, the chaos ensued before the gates of the Chinnaswamy Stadium were opened. "About 10 people have died in the stampede at the gates of the Chinnaswamy stadium," the official reported to BBC Hindi. A police representative recounted that despite an expected attendance of approximately 100,000, over 200,000 fans reportedly showed up, leading to a dire situation as many attempted to push through a small gate.

Following the RCB team’s arrival at the HAL airport, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar received them, initiating a procession towards their hotel, expected to culminate with the team being honored on the steps of Vidhana Soudha, the state legislature seat. Officials had planned for the team to parade in procession to the stadium post-reception, but the event took a disastrous turn before it could unfold.

As the day progressed, eager fans from various areas of the city flocked to the stadium, adorned in RCB jerseys and utilizing all means of transport. The metro trains were so filled that many, including reporters, were unable to board. Chants of the team's name echoed from within trains and outside platforms, creating an exhilarating atmosphere. However, due to the overwhelming crowd, auto rickshaws and taxis were reluctant to approach the stadium, forcing many attendees to disembark several kilometers away.

The situation escalated rapidly after news of the fatalities spread, prompting panic as crowds rushed towards nearby metro stations. In response, authorities swiftly shut down stations surrounding the stadium, as immense crowds surged onto platforms.
