Nature's Magic: Potter Wasp 'Riding a Broomstick' Captivates Judges in Wildlife Photography Contest
At first glance, the potter wasp appears to be riding a broomstick. But this industrious insect isn’t flying back to stir its witch's cauldron or playing Quidditch. It’s carrying a caterpillar, the prey to feed its young.
This breathtaking moment was captured by macro wildlife photographer Bidyut Kalita. The image is among several that received high commendations in this year's Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. The winners will be announced on October 14, with an exhibition showcasing the best wildlife images around the world to follow at the Natural History Museum.
Kalita’s image, titled “Special Delivery”, encapsulates the vibrant hues of nature set against a blurred pink and purple backdrop, drawing the viewer's focus to the insect’s vivid wings and captured prey. The competition aims to honor the extraordinary beauty of the natural world while raising awareness about wildlife conservation.
Stay tuned as more commendable works from this year's competition will also be explored and exhibited, inspiring many to appreciate nature's marvels.
