Rescue Efforts Underway After Tourist Boat Capsizes in Red Sea
Rescue teams have located survivors after the capsizing of the Sea Story, which was carrying 45 individuals including tourists and crew.
Authorities in Egypt’s Red Sea Governorate have launched a rescue operation following a distress call from the tourist boat Sea Story, which sank while carrying 31 tourists and 14 crew members. The boat, measuring 44 meters (144 feet) in length, departed from a port near Marsa Alam on Saturday for a day of diving exploration. The distress signal indicated an urgent situation that required immediate intervention.
The governor of the Red Sea province, Maj-Gen Amr Hanafi, reported that rescuers promptly located several survivors in the Wadi el-Gemal region, situated south of Marsa Alam. Some of these survivors were airlifted to medical facilities for treatment, while others awaited recovery by a nearby Egyptian warship, illustrating the cooperative efforts of land and maritime forces in dangerous ocean conditions.
Both aerial and naval units remain active in ongoing search operations, focused on locating additional missing individuals associated with the incident. This tragic event follows a recent similar mishap, where three British nationals went missing after a boat fire in the same region, prompting concerns about tourism safety in Egypt's coastal waters. The situation is under constant monitoring as authorities aim to ensure the safety of all passengers and support families impacted by the accident.
