Eurostar Disruptions Continue as Passengers Face Delays Due to Cable Theft

Eurostar experiences ongoing travel chaos following dual incidents that led to cancellations and severe delays.

Passengers relying on Eurostar services between London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam have been deeply affected by recent disruptions due to tragic incidents and theft along the railway line.

Eurostar passengers are grappling with significant delays and cancellations as the fallout from two deaths on the LGV Nord high-speed line continues to affect services. On Tuesday, the line was closed for much of the day following these tragic incidents, and on Wednesday, additional problems arose when approximately 600 metres of copper cables were stolen near Lille.

As a direct consequence, Eurostar has advised passengers to either cancel or postpone their trips scheduled for Wednesday, as many services have been severely impacted. The high-speed rail operator reported ongoing disruptions, with routes to and from London facing last-minute cancellations and extended journey times due to the rerouting of trains.

Despite the challenges, Eurostar announced in a statement their commitment to addressing the situation, indicating that they are collaborating with French authorities to restore services. While one track has since reopened, enabling some trains to operate in both directions, full repairs are not expected to be completed until around 16:00 BST.

To mitigate passenger discomfort, water is being distributed on delayed trains, but congestion at train stations has also been reported. Eurostar reassured impacted passengers that they can alter their travel plans free of charge or request a full refund, emphasizing their understanding of the situation's impact.

In light of the ongoing disruptions, Eurostar recognized the challenging circumstances for its customers and is striving to manage the situation carefully while ensuring safety is prioritized.
