Chris Brown, the well-known R&B singer, has been released on bail by a London court as he faces serious charges arising from an incident at a nightclub. The 36-year-old artist was arrested last week at a hotel in Manchester and has been accused of assaulting a music producer with a tequila bottle during an altercation at Tape London on February 19, 2023.
During a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in South London, Mr. Brown's legal team successfully argued for his release. The court set the bail amount at five million pounds ($6.7 million), which will be forfeited if he violates any imposed conditions. As part of the bail agreement, Judge Tony Baumgartner instructed Mr. Brown to surrender his passport when not on tour and to remain away from the venue in question.
This development comes as the R&B singer prepares to start his international tour on June 8, which will kick off in Amsterdam and include performances in several European countries, including Germany, Ireland, and France, before he returns to the United States.
Also facing legal troubles in relation to the same incident is American rapper Omololu Akinlolu, known as HoodyBaby, who has been charged with grievous bodily harm just two days after Mr. Brown. Both artists are scheduled to appear in court together on June 20.
