At least three industrial laborers died when a concrete arched roof collapsed over them during construction at a factory entrance in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2026, a local official said.
The incident occurred at an entrance to a factory in a local industrial area. The roof, which was under construction, fell suddenly on the workers that were present, according to the official.
More than 15 workers were at the site when the collapse happened, the official added. Of those present, the three who died were all industrial laborers.
Three other workers sustained injuries in the collapse. Their injuries were assessed at a nearby hospital, where they received medical treatment.
Local authorities investigated the matter and identified the construction is taking place on the factory grounds. They confirmed the roof structure was a concrete arch for the entrance.
The collapse took place early in the day, the official’s statement indicated. No further details about the cause of the collapse were released at the time of the report.
Krishnagiri district lies in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, which has an emerging industrial sector, the official noted. The area is known for manufacturing activity, though the report did not mention any previous safety incidents on the site.
Following the collapse, the local government requested additional safety inspections at the factory and nearby industrial facilities, the official said. They also requested that construction meets safety standards to prevent future incidents.
The local hospital treated the four injured workers; their conditions are reported to have stabilized after initial care, the local official said.
The factory’s management has not yet issued a statement about the incident, according to the official. The local authorities are reviewing the incident to determine if further safety protocols have been breached.
Residents in the area expressed concern about the safety of construction projects. Some residents said they had seen the concrete arch being erected earlier and warned that smaller openings might have delayed the collapse, but no official statement on this assertion was released.
Officials responded that the incident is under investigation and that no additional casualties have been reported as of the latest update on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, the state’s Department of Industrial Safety issued a reminder to industrial workers in other districts to comply with local safety regulations during construction projects.
For now, the focus remains on recovery for the injured workforce and conducting a thorough review of the collapsed structure’s design and construction to prevent similar incidents in the future.
