A passenger bus travelling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi was involved in a collision with a dumper truck near the Havelian interchange in Abbottabad on Friday, killing eight people and injuring thirty others, Xinhua reported.

Accident Details

The incident occurred at the Havelian interchange in Abbottabad district, as the bus approached the junction. According to Rescue 1122 officials, the bus collided with a dumper truck and the impact caused the vehicle to overturn, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.

Authorities indicated that among the injured were five children and six women, all of whom were taken to Ayub Medical Complex for treatment. Rescue 1122 brought seven ambulances and a rescue vehicle to the scene to evacuate the victims and provide emergency care.

Local police suggested that a tyre burst on the bus may have caused the driver to lose control, leading to the collision. The bodies of the eight deceased, who were identified as residents of Gilgit, were transported to different hospitals in the region.

Response and Aftermath

Rescue 1122 responded promptly, deploying multiple ambulances to the site and coordinating the transfer of the injured to the nearest medical facility. Medics at Ayub Medical Complex reported that four of the injured passengers were in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could rise if their conditions deteriorated.

The authorities stated that the victims were treated on site before being transported, and the ambulance crews worked to stabilize patients en route to the hospital. Alongside the emergency medical response, local police continued to investigate the cause of the accident and determine any contributing factors.

The incident has drawn attention to traffic safety on the congested routes between major cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prompting officials to urge drivers to exercise caution on highways and to monitor vehicle maintenance, including tyre conditions.
