US musician D4vd has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder in the case of a teenage girl who went missing last year. The 21-year-old, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, faces serious allegations including the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose decomposed remains were discovered in September in a vehicle registered to him.
Burke, who also faces charges for murder with financial gain and for allegedly murdering a witness, made his initial court appearance on Monday without speaking, as his lawyers entered the plea on his behalf.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that Hernandez was last heard from after going to Burke's residence on April 23, 2025, and her remains were recovered from the trunk of a Tesla linked to Burke. Hochman described the case as a parent's nightmare given the details of the girl's disappearance and the subsequent discovery of her remains.
The defense argues that the evidence will prove Burke's innocence, with his attorneys asserting their commitment to a vigorous defense. The case has drawn widespread attention and raises significant legal questions as it unfolds, particularly regarding the nature of the evidence and the implications of the charges against the defendant.
In addition to the murder charges, the prosecution alleges serious violations, including multiple sexual acts with a minor. Given the nature of the charges, the potential for the death penalty has also been mentioned, showing the severity of the situation.
Public sentiment is heightened as the case continues to develop, with significant community interest in seeking justice for Hernandez and accountability for those implicated in her tragic death.
