A Russian drone has slammed into a block of flats in eastern Kyiv, killing six people and wounding dozens of others, during a wave of strikes throughout the Ukrainian capital.
As emergency workers sifted through the wreckage in the Lisovyi area, one Kyiv resident described how the drone had pierced the building, exploding on the other side.
Meanwhile, Ukraine stepped up its attacks on Russia's oil infrastructure, launching drone strikes on one of its major export terminals in Novorossiysk, on the Black Sea coast. Fire broke out at the Sheskharis oil refinery, damaging both a ship and nearby buildings, according to local officials.
Mayor Andrei Kravchenko declared a state of emergency in Krasnodar following injuries from the attacks on their oil depot.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian forces had employed long-range cruise missiles, although details on specific targets were not disclosed.
In total, Zelensky condemned the strikes as vile, indicating that a significant number of drones and missiles had been launched, with considerable destruction to civilian infrastructure.
The drone that hit the residential building damaged several floors, causing collapses and a hazardous environment for residents. It spurred extensive emergency services response efforts, leading to over 40 rescues, including some trapped in flames or under rubble.
As tensions continue to rise, Russian officials have argued that these strikes aim for military targets, a claim Ukraine disputes, emphasizing the civilian toll and infrastructural damage inflicted by these continued attacks.
