Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver in Hollywood, police have reported.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated that Sutherland 'entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats' during the incident at 00:15 PST (08:15 GMT) on Monday.
Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any injuries, according to LAPD officials.
The 59-year-old actor was released after posting a bond of $50,000 (£37,000) and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. The BBC has reached out to his representatives for further comments.
The altercation occurred at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue and is currently under investigation by the LAPD’s Hollywood Division.
Sutherland, famous for portraying special agent Jack Bauer on the television series '24' and as the US President in 'Designated Survivor', is the son of acclaimed actor Donald Sutherland.
This is not the first time Sutherland has faced legal issues; he has been arrested multiple times in the past. In 2007, he served 48 days in jail for DUI offenses. He faced an assault charge in 2009, though it was eventually dropped. His most recent run-in with the law was in 2020 for making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
