Poland’s Defence Ministry confirmed that a Russian military Mi‑8 helicopter entered its airspace for 42 seconds, prompting the country to scramble fighter jets and keep ground forces on high alert.

The helicopter crossed from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad into Polish airspace north of Braniewo at about 11:08 local time, penetrating about 300 metres (328 yards) before being tracked by radar and escorted out by the Polish air force.

Polish officials said the incident “indicates that Russia is once again testing the readiness of our air defence.” The country has warned that such incursions are part of a broader pattern of hybrid threats aimed at sowing doubt among NATO allies over their commitment to Ukraine.

Moscow has yet to comment on this specific event, while Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to deny any intention of attacking NATO states. In contrast, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned that a broader European war would be much shorter if Russia were attacked.
