Donald Trump is the only world leader capable of stopping Vladimir Putin from threatening Europe, according to Poland's President Karol Nawrocki.
In an interview with Radio 4's Today programme, he said the Russian leader was not to be trusted, but that Europe needed to do everything it could to support President Trump in his efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
President Nawrocki, already a known advocate for Donald Trump, stated that with Vladimir Putin's Russia menacing Poland and Eastern Europe, the US president was the only person who could, as he put it, solve this problem and conclude the conflict in Ukraine.
Commenting on last September's mass incursion by Russian drones, where more than 20 drones crossed into Poland from Belarus and Ukraine, Nawrocki described it as an extraordinary situation, adding that it was the first instance of such a significant drone attack on a NATO member state. He believes Russia is attempting to test Poland’s defenses and NATO’s unity.
He also thanked Britain for its provision of RAF Typhoon jets to bolster Poland's defenses. The President conveyed that Poland has been in a state of hybrid warfare with Russia since 2021, facing both drone incursions and disinformation.
Nawrocki illustrated his perspective on security during the interview by confronting European leaders for focusing on ideological issues instead of the pressing security threats, indicating that Poland allocates close to 5% of its GDP to defense.
Discussions regarding the future of Greenland and NATO's integrity were also addressed, with Nawrocki advocating for improved relations between Europe and the US and expressing appreciation for the UK’s role in supporting Poland's safety.
He concluded by emphasizing the vital importance of Poland's relationship with the UK, noting that around one million Poles reside there, and voiced hope for Poland's inclusion in future significant economic discussions.
