In brief
Three people arrested in connection with a fatal arson that claimed the lives of four Irish residents have been freed after a review by Gardaí. The blaze that destroyed the English family home on Birch Avenue killed husband Philip, wife Kim and their sons Jayden and Callum. Earlier charges against a young man and a woman remain in force, while a fourth suspect remains in custody. The incident has prompted a deeper investigation into motives, while the community mourns its loss.
Irish police said on Saturday that three of the four people taken into custody over a suspected arson that killed four people in Waterford have been released without charge.
The blaze destroyed the home on Birch Avenue, killing husband Philip, wife Kim, and their sons Jayden, nine, and Callum, twelve. The family’s home was located on the outskirts of Waterford city.
Earlier this month, police had charged a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s with the arson. The two men and a woman arrested on Tuesday – two women in their 30s and a man in his 50s – were freed after a review by the Gardaí. A fourth suspect, a man in his 20s arrested on Thursday, remains in custody.
The case remains under investigation as authorities seek to understand motives and whether the arson was premeditated or accidental. Family members and the community continue to mourn the loss of the English family.
