Attorneys for Sean Diddy Combs have notified a US federal court of their plans to appeal the rap mogul's conviction and 50-month prison sentence.
They filed a notice of appeal on Monday and are expected to submit the formal documents soon.
Combs was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and acquitted on two other charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Judge Arun Subramanian stated that a substantial sentence was necessary to convey that abuse of women is met with real accountability.
He also imposed a $500,000 (£374,000) fine and five years of probation on Combs.
Combs had requested a 14-month sentence, which would have allowed for his immediate release due to time served, but prosecutors argued for a sentence exceeding 11 years.
During the sentencing hearing in September, Combs expressed remorse, stating: My actions were disgusting, shameful, and sick. He admitted to losing himself in excess and ego, pleading for mercy while apologizing to two women who testified against him.
His legal team has signaled their intent to contest both the conviction and the judge’s sentencing decision.
Combs was arrested in September 2024, and his nearly two-month-long trial garnered significant media attention.
Prosecutors alleged that he exploited his influential music industry status to orchestrate a sex trafficking operation, coercing women to engage in sexual acts with male escorts.
The trial also brought forth allegations of physical abuse by Combs towards singer Cassandra Ventura and claims from another woman, who testified under a pseudonym, about feeling pressured to participate in sexual encounters even when unwell.
Despite being found not guilty of the more severe charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, the jury’s decision on the two transportation counts led to his current sentence.
