A series of powerful storms has lashed the Pacific Northwest since Tuesday, bringing heavy rains, swollen rivers, and prompting emergency water rescues, according to authorities.

The National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center has forecast several days of heavy rainfall across western Washington and northwestern Oregon, as the trans-Pacific jet stream drives moisture into the region. Flood watches have been issued, indicating potential for scattered flash flooding along the coast and portions of the Cascades throughout the midweek.

Fire crews successfully rescued two individuals trapped by rising floodwaters at a campsite in the Gold Bar area of Snohomish County, located north of Seattle. Specialized drones and water rescue equipment were employed to extract the individuals safely, as reported by KOMO-TV.

The Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management reported that rivers in the area remain under flood warnings, with the Skykomish River reaching major flood status. Local authorities urged residents in vulnerable areas, such as the Moonlight Drive neighborhood, to prepare for possible evacuations.

In Seattle, emergency services reported that eastbound Interstate 90 was closed temporarily due to debris caused by wind and rainfall, but it was reopened the following morning. Transportation officials in Portland warned regarding hazardous driving conditions expected during the Tuesday morning commute, as predictions indicated peak rainfall coinciding with travel hours.

Meanwhile, a fast-moving storm across the Upper Midwest brings its challenges as residents prepare for winter weather, including freezing rain, heavy snowfall, and high winds. Meteorologists have advised caution on the roads in anticipation of hydroplaning and hazardous travel conditions throughout the region.

Weather experts anticipate that the atmospheric river, characterized by strong storm systems, will shift slightly south before bringing more rain to the northern parts of the Pacific Northwest later in the week.

Travelers should remain informed about ongoing weather developments, as significant impacts are expected through the week across various regions.
