The jacket, worth about S$350 (US$275, £202), was taken from a display mannequin in the airport’s shopping mall and the suspect left the store without paying. Surveillance footage captured the theft, which was reported by a retail assistant on Aug. 14.

The accused was arrested while in transit at the airport on Aug. 15 and charged under Singapore law, which stipulates up to seven years in jail for theft.

Singapore police stressed that offenders cannot evade prosecution by leaving the country after committing an offence, citing a separate case of a Polish woman who was arrested in June for stealing perfume from airport stores. The police reaffirmed strict enforcement of shop‑lifting rules.
