Sydney Marathon medal mistakenly features Munich stadium

Before the 2026 Sydney Marathon, organisers face scrutiny after the participation medal showed the Allianz Arena in Munich, not Sydney’s Allianz Stadium.

The medal’s design also includes a gold and indigo pattern by First Nations artist Ambrose Killian, with twelve ticks marking each kilometre of the 42.2‑km course.

This blunder echoes a similar mistake at last year’s Great North Run, where medals depicted an incorrect city and river. Officials have yet to respond; runners will still enjoy a course that passes the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
