Vampire Film 'Sinners' Sets New Oscar Nomination Record
The vampire horror film Sinners has broken the record for the most Oscar nominations received by a single film, after being nominated for 16 of Hollywood's most coveted honours.
The film surpassed the previous record of 14 nominations and outperformed its nearest rival this year, the thriller One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which garnered 13 awards.
Among the contenders from Sinners are its star Michael B Jordan and British co-stars Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo.
Other nominations include Timothee Chalamet, who seeks his first win after two prior nominations, and Jessie Buckley, who is currently the frontrunner for best actress with her performance in Hamnet.
However, Paul Mescal, Buckley’s co-star, was notably absent from the nominations, and stars from Wicked: For Good also missed out entirely.
The Oscar winners will be announced on March 15 in Hollywood.

BBC Radio 1 film critic Ali Plumb remarked that it is refreshing to see Sinners receive broad acclaim, given that horror films typically struggle at prestigious award ceremonies. He commended the film for being more than just a horror, mixing genres and addressing significant themes.
As for One Battle After Another, it encapsulates the contentious political landscape in the current U.S., featuring DiCaprio as a revolutionary fighting against an authoritarian regime.
While Sinners boasts historical significance with its Oscar nomination tally, it remains to be seen whether it can clinch the highly coveted top prize come March.
