In brief

Two Israeli drone strikes on southern and northern Gaza on Sunday reportedly killed eight Palestinians, including five police officers and a four‑year‑old child, according to Xinhua and Al Jazeera. Gaza health authorities confirm 1,580 deaths since the October 2025 ceasefire, while Hamas denounced the attacks as a deliberate war crime.

At least eight Palestinians were killed Sunday by Israeli military drone strikes on the Gaza Strip, according to local and medical sources. Five of the casualties were police officers acting on duty in the al‑Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, while three civilians, including a four‑year‑old boy, were killed in an attack on the al‑Rimal neighbourhood, west of Gaza City.

Xinhua Report

The Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported that local Palestinian sources said an Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of Palestinians and police officers in al‑Mawasi. Nasser Medical Complex confirmed that at least five people were killed and several others wounded, some severely, in the strike. The Hamas‑run Interior Ministry confirmed that all five police victims were members of the General Directorate of Police “performing routine duties.”

Xinhua added that Israeli attacks have since the October 2025 ceasefire killed 75 police officers, and that since the ceasefire the Gaza Health Authority has recorded 1,580 Palestinians killed and 5,711 wounded. Cumulative deaths since the October 2023 conflict are listed as 74,594 killed and 175,834 wounded.

Al Jazeera Report

Al Jazeera also reported eight Palestinian deaths, citing hospital sources in the Gaza Strip. One of the victims was a four‑year‑old boy killed in a drone strike on the Rimal neighbourhood. The agency reported that the Israeli army told AFP that it was targeting a “terrorist” in southern Gaza.

They were targeted as they were doing their jobs.

This quote was attributed to Al Jazeera reporter Hani Mahmoud from Gaza City.

Al Jazeera noted that Hamas condemned the attacks as a “deliberate war crime,” describing the strike that killed police officers as part of an Israeli strategy to “obstruct recovery, undermine stability in the Gaza Strip, and sow chaos.” The statement added that “international silence and the failure to confront these horrific crimes only embolden the occupation.”

Both outlets confirmed that the Gaza Health Authority recorded 1,580 deaths and 5,711 injuries since the ceasefire, and that the cumulative toll since October 2023 stands at 74,594 dead and 175,834 wounded.

While Xinhua emphasized the official confirmation from Hamas‑run interior authorities and the statistic on police deaths since the ceasefire, Al Jazeera highlighted the condemnation by Hamas and the Israeli army’s claim of a specific target. No immediate comment was received from the Israeli military regarding either strike.
